1:1 [2385] James, a [1401] servant of [2316] God and of the [2962] Lord [2424] Jesus [5547] Christ, to the [1427] twelve [5443] tribes [3739] which are [1290] scattered [1290] abroad, [5463] greeting.
1:2 My [0080] brethren, [2233] count it [3956] all [5479] joy [3752] when ye [4045] fall into [4164] divers [3986] temptations;
1:3 [1097] Knowing this, that the [1383] trying of [5216] your [4102] faith [2716] worketh [5281] patience.
1:4 But let [5281] patience [2192] have her [5046] perfect [2041] work, that ye may be [5046] perfect and [3648] entire, [3007] wanting [3367] nothing.
1:5 [1487] If [5100] any of you [3007] lack [4678] wisdom, let him [0154] ask of [2316] God, that [1325] giveth to [3956] all men [0574] liberally, and [3679] upbraideth not; and it shall be [1325] given him.
1:6 But let him [0154] ask in [4102] faith, [3367] nothing [1252] wavering. For he that [1252] wavereth is [1503] like a [2830] wave of the [2281] sea [0416] driven with the [0416] wind and [4495] tossed.
1:7 For let not that [0444] man [3633] think that he shall [2983] receive [5100] any thing of the [2962] Lord.
1:8 A [1374] double [1374] minded [0435] man is [0182] unstable in [3956] all his [3598] ways.
1:9 Let the [0080] brother of [5011] low [5011] degree [2744] rejoice in that he is [5311] exalted:
1:10 But the [4145] rich, in that he is [5014] made [5014] low: [3754] because as the [0438] flower of the [5528] grass he shall [3928] pass away.
1:11 For the [2246] sun is no sooner [0393] risen with a [2742] burning [2742] heat, but it [3583] withereth the [5528] grass, and the [0438] flower [0846] thereof [1601] falleth, and the [2143] grace of the [4383] fashion of it [0622] perisheth: [3779] so [2532] also shall the [4146] rich man [3133] fade away in his [4197] ways.
1:12 [3107] Blessed is the [0435] man that [5278] endureth [3986] temptation: for when he is [1384] tried, he shall [2983] receive the [4735] crown of [2222] life, [3739] which the [2962] Lord hath [1861] promised to them that [0025] love him.
1:13 Let [3367] no [3367] man [3004] say when he is [3985] tempted, I am [3985] tempted of [2316] God: for [2316] God [0551] cannot be [0551] tempted with [2556] evil, [3762] neither [3985] tempteth he [3762] any [3762] man:
1:14 But [1538] every man is [3985] tempted, when he is [1828] drawn away of his [2398] own [1939] lust, and [1185] enticed.
1:15 [1534] Then when [1939] lust hath [4815] conceived, it [0616] bringeth [0616] forth [0266] sin: and [0266] sin, when it is [0658] finished, [5088] bringeth [5088] forth [2288] death.
1:16 Do not [4105] err, my [0027] beloved [0080] brethren.
1:17 [3956] Every [0018] good [1394] gift and [3956] every [5046] perfect [1394] gift is from [0509] above, and [2597] cometh [2597] down from the [3962] Father of [5457] lights, with [3739] whom is [3756] no [3883] variableness, [2228] neither [0644] shadow of [5157] turning.
1:18 Of his own [1014] will [0616] begat he us with the [3056] word of [0225] truth, that we should be a [5100] kind of [0536] firstfruits of his [2938] creatures.
1:19 [5620] Wherefore, my [0027] beloved [0080] brethren, let [3956] every [0444] man be [5036] swift to [0191] hear, [1021] slow to [2980] speak, [1021] slow to [3709] wrath:
1:20 For the [3709] wrath of [0435] man [2716] worketh not the [1343] righteousness of [2316] God.
1:21 [1352] Wherefore [0659] lay [0659] apart [3956] all [4507] filthiness and [4050] superfluity of [2549] naughtiness, and [1209] receive with [4240] meekness the [1721] engrafted [3056] word, [3588] which is [1410] able to [4982] save [5216] your [5590] souls.
1:22 But be ye [4163] doers of the [3056] word, and not [0202] hearers [3440] only, [3884] deceiving [1438] your own [0846] selves.
1:23 For [1487] if [1536] any be a [0202] hearer of the [3056] word, and not a [4163] doer, he is [1503] like unto a [0435] man [2657] beholding his [1083] natural [4383] face in a [2072] glass:
1:24 For he [2657] beholdeth [1438] himself, and [0565] goeth his way, and [2112] straightway [1950] forgetteth [3697] what [3697] manner of man he was.
1:25 But [3588] whoso [3879] looketh [1519] into the [5046] perfect [3551] law of [1657] liberty, and [3887] continueth therein, he [1096] being not a [1953] forgetful [0202] hearer, but a [4163] doer of the [2041] work, [3778] this man shall be [3107] blessed in his [4162] deed.
1:26 [1487] If [1536] any man [1722] among you [1380] seem to be [2357] religious, and [5468] bridleth not his [1100] tongue, but [0538] deceiveth his [0848] own [2588] heart, [5127] this man's [2356] religion is [3152] vain.
1:27 [2513] Pure [2356] religion and [0283] undefiled [3844] before [2316] God and the [3962] Father is [3778] this, To [1980] visit the [3737] fatherless and [5503] widows in their [2347] affliction, and to [5083] keep [1438] himself [0784] unspotted from the [2889] world.
2:1 My [0080] brethren, [2192] have not the [4102] faith of our [2962] Lord [2424] Jesus [5547] Christ, the Lord of [1391] glory, with [4382] respect of [4382] persons.
2:2 For [1437] if there [1525] come unto [5216] your [4864] assembly a [0435] man with a [5554] gold [5554] ring, in [2986] goodly [2066] apparel, and there [1525] come in [2532] also a [4434] poor man in [4508] vile [2066] raiment;
2:3 And ye have [1914] respect to him that [5409] weareth the [2986] gay [2066] clothing, and [2036] say unto him, [2521] Sit thou [5602] here in a [2573] good place; and [2036] say to the [4434] poor, [2476] Stand thou [1563] there, [2228] or [2521] sit [5602] here [5259] under my footstool:
2:4 Are ye not [2532] then [1252] partial in [1438] yourselves, and are [1096] become [2923] judges of [4190] evil [1261] thoughts?
2:5 [0191] Hearken, my [0027] beloved [0080] brethren, Hath not [2316] God [1586] chosen the [4434] poor of [5127] this [2889] world [4145] rich in [4102] faith, and [2818] heirs of the [0932] kingdom which he hath [1861] promised to them that [0025] love him?
2:6 But ye have [0818] despised the [4434] poor. Do not [4146] rich men [2616] oppress you, and [1670] draw you [1519] before the [2922] judgment seats?
2:7 Do not they [0987] blaspheme that [2570] worthy [3686] name by the [3588] which ye are [1941] called?
2:8 [1487] If ye [5055] fulfil the [0937] royal [3551] law [2596] according to the [1124] scripture, Thou shalt [0025] love thy [4139] neighbour as [4572] thyself, ye [4160] do [2573] well:
2:9 But [1487] if ye have [4380] respect to [4380] persons, ye [2038] commit [0266] sin, and are [1651] convinced of the [3551] law as [3848] transgressors.
2:10 For [3748] whosoever shall [5083] keep the [3650] whole [3551] law, and yet [4417] offend in [1520] one point, he is [1777] guilty of [3956] all.
2:11 For he that [2036] said, Do not [3431] commit [3431] adultery, [2036] said [2532] also, Do not [5407] kill. [1161] Now [1487] if thou [3431] commit [3756] no [3431] adultery, [1161] yet if thou [5407] kill, thou art [1096] become a [3848] transgressor of the [3551] law.
2:12 [3779] So [2980] speak ye, and [3779] so [4160] do, as they that shall be [2919] judged by the [3551] law of [1657] liberty.
2:13 For he shall have [2920] judgment [0448] without [0448] mercy, that hath [4160] shewed [3361] no [1656] mercy; and [1656] mercy [2620] rejoiceth [2620] against [2920] judgment.
2:14 [5101] What doth it [3786] profit, my [0080] brethren, [1437] though a [5100] man [3004] say he [2192] hath [4102] faith, and [2192] have not [2041] works? [1410] can [4102] faith [4982] save him?
2:15 [1437] If a [0080] brother [2228] or [0079] sister [5225] be [1131] naked, and [3007] destitute of [2184] daily [5160] food,
2:16 And [5100] one of you [2036] say unto them, [5217] Depart in [1515] peace, be ye [2328] warmed and [5526] filled; notwithstanding ye [1325] give them not [3588] those things which are [2006] needful to the [4983] body; [5101] what doth it [3786] profit?
2:17 [2532] Even [3779] so [4102] faith, [1437] if it [2192] hath not [2041] works, is [3498] dead, being [2596] alone.
2:18 [0235] Yea, a [5100] man may [2046] say, Thou [2192] hast [4102] faith, and I have [2041] works: [1166] shew me thy [4102] faith [5565] without thy [2041] works, and I will [1166] shew thee my [4102] faith by my [2041] works.
2:19 Thou [4100] believest that there is [1520] one [2316] God; thou [4160] doest [2573] well: the [1140] devils [2532] also [4100] believe, and [5425] tremble.
2:20 But [2309] wilt thou [1097] know, O [2756] vain [0444] man, that [4102] faith [5565] without [2041] works is [3498] dead?
2:21 Was not [0011] Abraham our [3962] father [1344] justified by [2041] works, when he had [0399] offered [2464] Isaac his [5207] son upon the [2379] altar?
2:22 [0991] Seest thou [3754] how [4102] faith [4903] wrought with his [2041] works, and by [2041] works was [4102] faith [5048] made [5048] perfect?
2:23 And the [1124] scripture was [4137] fulfilled [3588] which [3004] saith, [0011] Abraham [4100] believed [2316] God, and it was [3049] imputed unto him for [1343] righteousness: and he was [2564] called the [5384] Friend of [2316] God.
2:24 Ye [3708] see [5106] then how that by [2041] works a [0444] man is [1344] justified, and not by [4102] faith [3440] only.
2:25 [3668] Likewise [2532] also was not [4460] Rahab the [4204] harlot [1344] justified by [2041] works, when she had [5264] received the [0032] messengers, and had [1524] sent them out [2087] another [3598] way?
2:26 For as the [4983] body [5565] without the [4151] spirit is [3498] dead, [3779] so [4102] faith [5565] without [2041] works is [3498] dead [2532] also.
3:1 My [0080] brethren, be not [4183] many [1320] masters, [1492] knowing that we shall [2983] receive the [3187] greater [2917] condemnation.
3:2 For in [4183] many things we [4417] offend [0537] all. [1487] If [1536] any man [4417] offend not in [3056] word, the [3778] same is a [5046] perfect [0435] man, and [1415] able [2532] also to [5469] bridle the [3650] whole [4983] body.
3:3 [2400] Behold, we [0906] put [5469] bits in the [2462] horses' [4750] mouths, that they may [3982] obey us; and we [3329] turn [3329] about their [3650] whole [4983] body.
3:4 [2400] Behold [2532] also the [4143] ships, which though they be [5082] so [5082] great, and are [1643] driven of [4642] fierce [0417] winds, yet are they [3329] turned [3329] about with a [1646] very [1646] small [4079] helm, [0302] whithersoever the [2116] governor [1014] listeth.
3:5 [2532] Even [3779] so the [1100] tongue is a [3398] little [3196] member, and [3166] boasteth [3166] great things. [2400] Behold, [2245] how [2245] great a [5208] matter a [3641] little [4442] fire [0381] kindleth!
3:6 And the [1100] tongue is a [4442] fire, a [2889] world of [0093] iniquity: [3779] so is the [1100] tongue [1722] among our [3196] members, that it [4695] defileth the [3650] whole [4983] body, and [5394] setteth on [5394] fire the [5164] course of [1078] nature; and it is [5394] set on [5394] fire of [1067] hell.
3:7 For [3956] every [5449] kind of [2342] beasts, and of [4071] birds, and of [2062] serpents, and of things in the [1724] sea, is [1150] tamed, and hath been [1150] tamed of [0442] mankind:
3:8 But the [1100] tongue [1410] can [3762] no [0444] man [1150] tame; it is an [0183] unruly [2556] evil, [3324] full of [2287] deadly [2447] poison.
3:9 [0846] Therewith [2127] bless we [2316] God, even the [3962] Father; and [0846] therewith [2672] curse we [0444] men, [3588] which are [1096] made [2596] after the [3669] similitude of [2316] God.
3:10 Out of the [0846] same [4750] mouth [1831] proceedeth [2129] blessing and [2671] cursing. My [0080] brethren, [5023] these things [5534] ought not [3779] so to be.
3:11 Doth a [4077] fountain [1032] send [1032] forth [1537] at the [0846] same [3692] place [1099] sweet water and [4089] bitter?
3:12 [1410] Can the [4808] fig [4808] tree, my [0080] brethren, [4160] bear [1636] olive [1636] berries? [2228] either a [0288] vine, [4810] figs? [3779] so can [3762] no [4077] fountain both [4160] yield [0252] salt [5204] water and [1099] fresh.
3:13 [5101] Who is a [4680] wise man and [1990] endued with [1990] knowledge [1722] among you? let him [1166] shew out of a [2570] good [0391] conversation his [2041] works with [4240] meekness of [4678] wisdom.
3:14 But [1487] if ye [2192] have [4089] bitter [2205] envying and [2052] strife in [5216] your [2588] hearts, [2620] glory not, and [5574] lie not [2596] against the [0225] truth.
3:15 [3778] This [4678] wisdom [2718] descendeth not from [0509] above, but is [1919] earthly, [5591] sensual, [1141] devilish.
3:16 For [3699] where [2205] envying and [2052] strife is, [1563] there is [0181] confusion and [3956] every [5337] evil [4229] work.
3:17 But the [4678] wisdom that is from [0509] above is [4412] first [0053] pure, [1899] then [1516] peaceable, [1933] gentle, and [2138] easy to be [2138] intreated, [3324] full of [1656] mercy and [0018] good [2590] fruits, [0505] without [0087] partiality, and [0505] without [0505] hypocrisy.
3:18 And the [2590] fruit of [1343] righteousness is [4687] sown in [1515] peace of them that [4160] make [1515] peace.
4:1 From [4159] whence come [4171] wars and [3163] fightings [1722] among you? come they not [1782] hence, even of [5216] your [2237] lusts that [4754] war in [5216] your [3196] members?
4:2 Ye [1937] lust, and [2192] have not: ye [5407] kill, and [2206] desire to [2192] have, and [1410] cannot [2013] obtain: ye [3164] fight and [4170] war, [1161] yet ye [2192] have not, [1223] because ye [0154] ask not.
4:3 Ye [0154] ask, and [2983] receive not, [1360] because ye [0154] ask [2560] amiss, that ye may [1159] consume it upon [5216] your [2237] lusts.
4:4 Ye [3432] adulterers and [3428] adulteresses, [1492] know ye not that the [5373] friendship of the [2889] world is [2189] enmity with [2316] God? [0302] whosoever [3767] therefore [1014] will be a [5384] friend of the [2889] world is the [2190] enemy of [2316] God.
4:5 Do ye [1380] think that the [1124] scripture [3004] saith in [2761] vain, The [4151] spirit that [2730] dwelleth in us [1971] lusteth to [5355] envy?
4:6 But he [1325] giveth [3187] more [5485] grace. [1352] Wherefore he [3004] saith, [2316] God [0498] resisteth the [5244] proud, but [1325] giveth [5485] grace unto the [5011] humble.
4:7 [5293] Submit yourselves [3767] therefore to [2316] God. [0436] Resist the [1228] devil, and he will [5343] flee from you.
4:8 Draw [1448] nigh to [2316] God, and he will draw [1448] nigh to you. [2511] Cleanse your [5495] hands, ye [0268] sinners; and [0048] purify your [2588] hearts, ye [1374] double [1374] minded.
4:9 Be [5003] afflicted, and [3996] mourn, and [2799] weep: let [5216] your [1071] laughter be [3344] turned to [3997] mourning, and [3588] your [5479] joy to [2726] heaviness.
4:10 [5013] Humble yourselves in the [1799] sight of the [2962] Lord, and he shall [5312] lift you up.
4:11 [2635] Speak not [2635] evil [0240] one of [0240] another, [0080] brethren. He that [2635] speaketh [2635] evil of his [0080] brother, and [2919] judgeth his [0080] brother, [2635] speaketh [2635] evil of the [3551] law, and [2919] judgeth the [3551] law: but [1487] if thou [2919] judge the [3551] law, thou [1488] art not a [4163] doer of the [3551] law, but a [2923] judge.
4:12 There is [1520] one [3550] lawgiver, [3588] who is [1410] able to [4982] save and to [0622] destroy: [5101] who [1488] art thou that [2919] judgest [2087] another?
4:13 [0033] Go to [3568] now, ye that [3004] say, To [4594] day [2228] or to [0839] morrow we will [4198] go [1519] into [3592] such a [4172] city, and [4160] continue [1563] there a [1763] year, and [1710] buy and [1710] sell, and get [2770] gain:
4:14 [3748] Whereas ye [1987] know not [3588] what shall be on the [0839] morrow. For [4169] what is [5216] your [2222] life? It is [1063] even a [0822] vapour, that [5316] appeareth for a [3641] little time, and [1899] then [0853] vanisheth away.
4:15 For that ye ought to [3004] say, [1437] If the [2962] Lord [2309] will, we shall [2198] live, and [4160] do [5124] this, [2228] or that.
4:16 But [3568] now ye [2744] rejoice in [5216] your [0212] boastings: [3956] all [5108] such [2746] rejoicing is [4190] evil.
4:17 [3767] Therefore to him that [1492] knoweth to [4160] do [2570] good, and [4160] doeth it not, to him it is [0266] sin.
5:1 [0033] Go to [3568] now, ye [4146] rich men, [2799] weep and [3649] howl for [5216] your [5004] miseries that shall [1904] come upon you.
5:2 [5216] Your [4149] riches are [4595] corrupted, and [5216] your [2440] garments are [4598] motheaten.
5:3 [5216] Your [5557] gold and [0696] silver is [2728] cankered; and the [2447] rust of them shall be a [3142] witness [2596] against you, and shall [5315] eat [5216] your [4561] flesh as it were [4442] fire. Ye have [2343] heaped [2343] treasure together for the [2078] last [2250] days.
5:4 [2400] Behold, the [3408] hire of the [2040] labourers [3588] who have [0270] reaped down [5216] your [5561] fields, [3588] which is of you [0650] kept [0650] back by [0650] fraud, [2896] crieth: and the [0995] cries of them which have [2325] reaped are [1525] entered [1519] into the [3775] ears of the [2962] Lord of [4519] sabaoth.
5:5 Ye have [5171] lived in [5171] pleasure [1909] on the [1093] earth, and been [4684] wanton; ye have [5142] nourished [5216] your [2588] hearts, as in a [2250] day of [4967] slaughter.
5:6 Ye have [2613] condemned and [5407] killed the [1342] just; and he doth not [0498] resist you.
5:7 Be [3114] patient [3767] therefore, [0080] brethren, unto the [3952] coming of the [2962] Lord. [2400] Behold, the [1092] husbandman [1551] waiteth for the [5093] precious [2590] fruit of the [1093] earth, and hath [3114] long [3114] patience for it, [2193] until he [2983] receive the [4406] early and [3797] latter [5205] rain.
5:8 Be ye [2532] also [3114] patient; [4741] stablish [5216] your [2588] hearts: for the [3952] coming of the [2962] Lord draweth [1448] nigh.
5:9 [4727] Grudge not [0240] one [2596] against [0240] another, [0080] brethren, [3361] lest ye be [2632] condemned: [2400] behold, the [2923] judge [2476] standeth [4253] before the [2374] door.
5:10 [2983] Take, my [0080] brethren, the [4396] prophets, [3739] who have [2980] spoken in the [3686] name of the [2962] Lord, for an [5262] example of [2552] suffering [2552] affliction, and of [3115] patience.
5:11 [2400] Behold, we [3106] count them [3106] happy which [5278] endure. Ye have [0191] heard of the [5281] patience of [2492] Job, and have [1492] seen the [5056] end of the [2962] Lord; that the [2962] Lord is [4184] very [4184] pitiful, and of [3629] tender [3629] mercy.
5:12 But [4253] above [3956] all things, my [0080] brethren, [3660] swear not, [3383] neither by [3772] heaven, [3383] neither by the [1093] earth, [3383] neither by [5100] any [0243] other [3727] oath: but let [5216] your [3483] yea be [3483] yea; and [3588] your [3756] nay, [3756] nay; [3361] lest ye [4098] fall [5259] into [5272] condemnation.
5:13 Is [5100] any [1722] among you [2553] afflicted? let him [4336] pray. Is [5100] any [2114] merry? let him [5567] sing [5567] psalms.
5:14 Is [5100] any [0770] sick [1722] among you? let him [4341] call for the [4245] elders of the [1577] church; and let them [4336] pray [1909] over him, [0218] anointing him with [1637] oil in the [3686] name of the [2962] Lord:
5:15 And the [2171] prayer of [4102] faith shall [4982] save the [2577] sick, and the [2962] Lord shall [1453] raise him up; and if he have [4160] committed [0266] sins, they shall be [0863] forgiven him.
5:16 [1843] Confess [3588] your [3900] faults [0240] one to [0240] another, and [2172] pray [0240] one for [0240] another, that ye may be [2390] healed. The [1754] effectual fervent [1162] prayer of a [1342] righteous man [2480] availeth [4183] much.
5:17 [2243] Elias was a [0444] man [3663] subject to [3663] like [3663] passions as we are, and he [4336] prayed [4335] earnestly that it might not [1026] rain: and it [1026] rained not [1909] on the [1093] earth by the space of [5140] three [1763] years and [1803] six [3376] months.
5:18 And he [4336] prayed [3825] again, and the [3772] heaven [1325] gave [5205] rain, and the [1093] earth [0985] brought [0985] forth her [2590] fruit.
5:19 [0080] Brethren, [1437] if [1536] any of you do [4105] err from the [0225] truth, and [5100] one [1994] convert him;
5:20 Let him [1097] know, that he which [1994] converteth the [0268] sinner from the [4106] error of his [3598] way shall [4982] save a [5590] soul from [2288] death, and shall [2572] hide a [4128] multitude of [0266] sins.
