I'm reading a commentary on The Book of Revelation by Dr. Robert H. Mounce Ph.D. The commentary advocates Historic Premillennialism, but also informs opposing views on individual passages. This commentary is written like a novel, rather than a reference manual, and requires a straight-read-through to appreciate it because content is not repeated. Mounce draws heavily on R.H. Charles' two-volume commentary and references many extra-biblical apocalyptic literature such as the Book of Enoch. Mounce's background research on the seven churches sheds new lights on the seven letters of Rev 2-3.I found this commentary via a new website: www.BestCommentaries.com created by John Dyer (from Dallas Theological Seminary). This website lists all the best commentaries for each book of the bible, and gives them a rating, and brief description.

Comments: #1 September 17, 2008 1:25pm Hey, I read that commentary as well (not all the way through, however). It's pretty good. In fact, almost every commentary in that whole series is good. I've got the Gordon Fee one. It's considered one of the best commentaries on 1st Cor. One of my former Prof's, Pamela Scalise, is writing the OT one for Jeremiah. P
Phil #2 September 18, 2008 6:00pm I've read most of it, and I admit that I've already heard most of the content from DA Carson's lectures on Revelations. Although, some of his background information on the seven churches was good. He does present possibly alternate interpretation and doesn't bother with nonsense ones like the Jehovah Witness's view of the 144,000. I like it so far.
